Health Benefits of Probiotics

If you follow me on Instagram you are probably familiar with my straight up addiction to kombucha!  I discovered this miracle juice almost two years ago and have seen many great benefits from it.

From helping reduce bloat to aiding in balancing my hormones, the health benefits of probiotics found in kombucha and other fermented foods are ALL the rage 😉

I get asked A LOT why I drink it so much and why it is really beneficial, so wanted to share some insights.

There are also plenty of other great ways to get those probiotics in.  Some good vegan options include: sauerkraut, miso, pickles, tempeh, kimchi, fermented veggies and of course kombucha.

Gut Health
This is probably the best known benefit of fermented foods, for very good reason!

There are over 1,000 types of bacteria living in our digestive tract.  They help break down food and absorb nutrients.

There are many different things that could disrupt this process, including taking medication.  Some antibiotics and other prescriptions will be destructive to those bacteria leaving people with diarrhea and other unpleasant gut issues.

Probiotics also help with other gut ailments like IBS and and overall bowel health.  The “good” bacteria in the probiotics help force the “bad bacteria” out.

Urinary Health
For those who may be suffering from a urinary tract infection, probiotics along with your normal antibiotics can definitely help.

And for those who suffer from this often new studies have shown that regular probiotic consumption can help reduce the risk of getting an infection in the first place.

Urinary tract infections are fairly common in women, some getting them more often than others, so if you are one of those in the more often than not group I would bet anything that would help reduce that onset is a plus!

Skin Health
Probiotics help a lot with reducing overall inflammation in the body, inflammation which can sometime cause skin ailments like acne, eczema, rosacea.

Studies have shown that certain probiotics can lessen the inflammation in the body therefore helping reduce those irritations as well.

Immune Health
When you get sick, it is usually caused by a bad bacteria.  Because probiotics are GOOD bacteria, adding them to your daily regimen can help fight off the bad stuff.

Having those floating around in your body to knock out any bad ones that come your way is a great first step in helping your immune system be concrete.

BUT to be sure you get all the benefits this elixir can offer you should stay away from a couple things that kill off good bacteria.  The main ones being: sugar, GMO foods, wheat, prescriptions, emotional stress and chemicals.

All of these have been known to destroy good bacteria in the body.  So, if you are consuming any of these on a daily basis, those probiotics in your diet are probably just a waste!
